Gary L. Skaggs to Serve on Virginia Tech Advisory Board Gary Skaggs has been appointed to serve a 5-year term as a member of the Mining and Minerals Engineering Advisory Board for the Virginia Tech Department of Mining and Minerals Engineering. Gary’s 5-year term begins in April 2010.
Ivan B. Rahn Education Award to
Gary L. Skaggs The Ivan B. Rahn Education Award has been presented to Gary Skaggs. The award recognizes an SME member for distinguished contributions to educational activities within SME, such as ABET, student affairs, continuing education, professional registration or the Council of Education. Gary is a registered member of SME where he serves or has served on the Professional Engineers (PE) Exam Committee, the Council of Education's Accreditation and Curricular Issues Subcommittee, the ABET Visitors Selection Committee, the Mineral Resources and Reserves Committee and the Howard N. Eavenson Award Committee. He has served a s a commissioner on the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET as SME's representative for mining engineering. He is the PE Exam Committee's representative on the SME Foundation Board of Trustees. He is a member of the Colorado Mining Association, the Rocky Mountain Coal Mining Institute and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He received a B.S. degree in mining engineering from Virginia Tech and an M.B.A. from the University of Denver.
Outstanding Reviewer for Environmental and Engineering Geoscience Journal Award to Douglas F. Hambley The 2008 Outstanding Reviewer for Environmental and Engineering Geoscience Journal Award was presented by the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists (AEG) to Douglas F. Hambley. The Award, first presented in 2007, is given to an individual who has provided extended service by reviewing numerous manuscripts. This service includes providing, in a timely manner, critical evaluations, detailed comments, corrections of grammar and syntax, thoughtful suggestions for changes to improve the quality of the manuscript, and guidance to the Editors in making a decision regarding the manuscript.
